Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.
Thomas Jefferson understood that all authentic education is liberating and essential to a healthy Democracy. Patrick Henry voiced his own depth of commitment to freely receiving his life lessons when he said, "Give me liberty or give me death." So many students feel frustrated and stifled in their education. They fear stagnation and stunning of their personal growth by adults. Much of the available education of teachers and parents emphasizes "control of students in the home and in the classrooms away from home." This emphasis amplifies fears. Anytime we force anyone, students, parents or teachers to become solely agents of force, proportionally less teaching and learning takes place.
Without continual discovery process and ever expanding exploration and respect for conative process (will or spirit), discovery and consciousness itself, begins a slow death. The mind and body are wasted. The waters of our emotion, that keep us all in learning motion, if ignored, become stagnant ponds in the minds of our children and students. As teachers and parents we must consciously recognize that all of our balanced very human emotions and also the imbalanced ones, are mirrored by our many diverse adult teaching voices. Emotions and thoughts, as expressed through our voice and gestures, must not be congested or unhealthy. Harm results as it is passed into the minds and bodies of our children and students. If we say we love teaching and parenting, our talk must be consistent with our walk. Otherwise, mind is split off from body and even more tragically from the truly loving spirit of our very human nature.
Anthony Mountain at the Hutchins School within California State University commented about the loss of authenticity and the disconnection that takes place when we do not support everyone's unique learning style. He states: I really think they are disenfranchising people from their own minds as if your own learning wasn't yours. That's a little bit like saying that my own eye blinks aren't mine, but they are. Your own learning is yours.
With healthy emotional expression in clear voice and illuminating thoughts, we must be present to our students for the natural flow of learning. When we speak to them we must listen to both them and ourselves consciously. When we are fully attentive to them we learn from them as our teachers, as we become again the students that they too are. We are then more flexible in our parent child and teacher student roles through our five senses so we do not pass on "non-sense." Through fully attentive consciousness we may then exchange and share our deepest insights. This is the gift of authentic interaction. The exchange of thoughts, understandings and feelings in the outer world become part of the mind and body of our children's inner world. This is the heart of the personal growth process for all of us human beings as we learn our many life lessons with and through one another.
Lessons flow naturally and curiosity expands geometrically when authentic dialogues, liberating thoughts and heart-filled actions are presented. Through these exchanges, enlightened teachers and parents humbly realize that their role with their students and children are constantly interchanging. The perceived teacher and parent is also a student and child. The perceived child and student is also a parent and teacher. When we are inflexible, in this fundamental lesson, we teach our children to be inflexible. Flexible role exchange infinitely occurs in all conscious learning. We teach flexibility by being flexible in our apparent assigned roles. Through this free flowing process we generate creative thoughts, visceral understanding and "ease" in learning to implement life's lessons. The virtue of humility counters the effects of rigidity, humiliating control and all the humus so we do not pass fertilizer onto our children and young adults in their very human learning.
The Creator in infinite wisdom gave us a place in Creation, where perpetual motion and exchange through healthy emotion, dynamically invites everyone to be teachers and students with each other. In all our interactions that include those with animals, plants and our host, planet Earth, we may fully partake in the loving dance and rhythms of self-discovery. We are here to learn to recognize the Light of the Creator in One an Other and all Creation. Then as a species we will truly return to living the words: One for All and All for One in equality through sharing our uniqueness. This ever-changing paradigm is always expanding as we value infinite learning through the vast diversity among human beings and all forms of being.
We may contemplate Ben Franklin's insightful consciousness and profound wisdom that he openly shared at the end of the constitutional convention. He comments directly on inviting the guidance of Light and Illumination for the building of a new nation while warning us about what leads to division and despair. In this situation of this assembly, groping, as it were, in the dark, to find political truth, and scarce able to distinguish it when presented to us, how has it happened, sir, that we have not hitherto once thought of humbly applying to the Father of lights to illuminate our understandings? In the beginning of the contest with Great Britain, when we were sensible of danger, we had daily prayer in this room for the divine protection. Our prayers, sir, were heard, and they were graciously answered. All of us who were engaged in the struggle must have observed frequent instances of a superintending Providence in our favor. To that kind Providence we owe this happy opportunity of consulting in peace on the means of establishing our future national felicity. And have we now forgotten that powerful Friend? Or do we imagine that we no longer need his assistance? I have lived, sir, a long time, and, the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth--that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid? We have been assured, sir, in the sacred writings, that "except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it." I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed, in this political building, no better than the builders of Babel. We shall be divided by our little partial local interests; our projects will be confounded; and we ourselves shall become a reproach and by-word down to future ages. And, what is worse, mankind may hereafter, from this unfortunate instance, despair of establishing governments by human wisdom, and leave it to chance, war and conquest. If we open our eyes by letting go of all our "I's", we easily can awaken to Ben Franklin's timeless words. As we are continually evolving as a species, it is imperative that our journey includes the guidance of Infinite Being as deepening democracy is approached through our nation harmonizing with other nations. Our nation and every nation on this planet must come to realize that any attempt to stop the harmonizing within our inner world or in the outer world, makes us profoundly suicidal as it moves against all nature of the free flow of Infinite Being throughout the cosmos. If we deny within ourselves the necessity for Light and guidance in all our processes of democracy and education, we insanely contradict ourselves. While we may be driven to terror in the event of our own death, when we deny each other freedom to learn, we blindly race towards probable death, without realizing what we do to our conscious human being. Infinite Being, in and through each of our spirits, sustains us. Universally each of us must show reverence for our spirit and the spirit in each other's voice. Our own inner responsibility for the freedom given to each of us, is all that is required to universally participate in ever-evolving motion that touches all our minds and bodies in creative thoughts and emotion. When our focus is upon promotion of each of our petty "I's", this limits our consciousness and prevents our eyes from opening to the very free nature of our being within Infinite Being. The Founding Fathers and Mothers deeply understood the inseparability (indivisibility) of mind, body and spirit in fully being free and learning human beings to one another. The principles of democracy are consistent with healthy mind body spirit indivisibility. Spirit-guided liberty leads to diverse, creative, and responsible thoughts that balance the mind. As the mind is freed from its illusions of servitude, patronage and superiority, our thoughts and words begin to equalize with our flesh. The talk truly merges again with its visceral walk. The body and mind are now on the same page, both liberated and harmonizing with each other. The body loves the healthy relationship with the mind when the mind supports rather than interferes with its health. The harmonious mind and body together have equalized responses in their new liberation and responsibility to one another. Freedom naturally expands towards illuminating insights for the mind and healthier responses in the body through all of its organs and cells. As the process continues, mind and body both participate in healthier service oriented actions as our spirit continues to guide us in learning to love one another True Democracy fundamentally embraces freedom, diversity, equality and education for everyone as we learn our life lessons. Its principles are cosmically universal and support the comprehensive health of the citizens of our planet in all its many diverse nations and cultures. There is no division as it recognizes the indivisibility within the Creator as this indivisibility is given and exists within every individual. True democracy never attempts to control or stop the infinite motion of healthy change and exchange. It calls forth both the diversity and indivisibility from every one of us. Each of us as citizens of planet Earth, cannot fall into the trap of saying, "everyone abandon their wisdom and listen only to my way of learning life's lessons or my way of worshipping the Creator." These are forms of terrorism and idolatry. They are the antithesis of democracy, education, human nature, and Creation itself.
For our full participation in the continual evolution of the universe, we must fully engage and support our intrinsic freedom that was given to each of us by the Creator. This is the gift of every human's free spirit, manifest through mind and body in our daily learning and exercise of that freedom. There are as many expressions of free spirit as there are people in our world. When poor choice, in our freedom to choose, attempts to ignore this, natural intrinsic wisdom and personal growth are inhibited collectively for everyone. Unchecked, this continues to cycle into further losses of freedom for everyone. The exercising of freedom is a sacred process. Even our mistakes in misuse of freedom can teach us, as we openly acknowledge them and make genuine commitments not to repeat them. Each of our spirits will collectively and individually be our guide (s) through recovery as all are guided by the Creator's Spirit. In unison, they present opportunities to pursue happiness as we respectfully learn and discover our lessons with one an "other." I recently witnessed a stressed teacher very irritated by a class who was talking while she, herself, was talking in a very stressful manner and not really teaching. Many of our teachers vent their own life pain on their students just as many parents do, and expect them (our children) to become containers for their pain. In the absence of any real exchange, this teacher raised her voice and said "I guess I'll have to start being really mean to quiet you down. I can be the Wicked Witch of the West if I have to." A student responded with free spirit in a clear tone voice, "I don't think that will help anything." The talking in the class momentarily stopped with this student's wise words. Many in the class, in the moment of complete silence that followed, may have recognized that this student's voice was wisdom coming through her firm but gentle spirit. It is our truly loving spirit that is most attuned to the essence of the Creator's Spirit. Timeless wisdom may be expressed anytime through the heart of teaching and learning through any of us. It is imperative that we be attuned to our truly loving spirit in ourselves and as it is freely expressed through any of us, so we all can learn, as teacher and student alike. Though the teacher attempted to ignore the student's comment, the momentary silence came about in the natural flow of attentive reflective learning. The teacher could not be with the mirroring of her negative process through the silence very long, nor could she let go of the oppressing role she was creating as their teacher. She could not bear to receive her lessons from this student and the collective momentary silence freely expressing the learning sentiment from the whole class. The teacher would not permit this healthy exchange of student and teacher roles. She began stressfully talking again more harshly than before. She, the licensed, assigned teacher, was oblivious to the heart of learning and understanding that she might have a part in creating the situation. Creativity and real learning are gifts from the Creator that may come through our spirits from anyone of us, any time. They are vital to a healthy democracy and education. Many of the students I have spoken to feel that some parents let their children be teachers, but they also feel that many teachers are not sufficiently humble to admit their mistakes and value the teachings that come from their student roles. We all must remember in our many lessons, that respect is chosen, never forced, even when legitimate power is given to a teacher or parent. The personal power of love always makes its attempt to express and flow freely if we let it. Without love, anyone may become the "Wicked Witch of the West," to force and demand attention. Carl Jung clearly stated, Where love rules there is no will to power, and where power dominates, love is lacking. Without love taking the lead, sometimes mercifully offered in moments of silence, we may easily ignore the teachings from each other. In the absence of love, we cannot see with our eyes the flickers of learning and teaching lights in the eyes of all of us, we the people. In any Democracy our representatives are also given legitimate power to serve and represent our collective learning and wisdom. They are to propose and pass laws that promote our freedoms and manifest the bettering of mind body health in each our states and in greater breadth for the entire nation. Everyone must remember to keep legitimate power attuned to the collective mind of a nation's people with the highest regard for personal power as well. If we ignore the light in one, we further a process of ignoring other lights and forget that any of us may be instruments of our Creator's offering wise teaching in any given moment. When either the voices of the minority or majority are ignored, we wound ourselves collectively throughout the planet. Ben Franklin at times was only a single voice, but that voice was bringing freedom, wisdom and illumination to an entire congress. Creative solutions for the many daily living problems we have, present through the voices of the many people who live daily with those problems. Just as important are the voices of the few, even the one, who may express with attunement to the One. Often it is just one, who may have the insight for every one to benefit. Our representatives must be attuned to all the notes as we all compose and orchestrate a harmonious chorus, solos and symphony. Even when others ignore the light in our eyes or try to close our eyes and silence one or many voices of spirit, we need not worry. Any liberating thoughts and words are aligned with the Creator who wishes us to mentally and viscerally learn about liberty in ourselves through each our given gift of free will. All liberating thoughts and words take us into full active motion when they come forward through the power of love. Thoughts and words travel in motion and emotion as they traverse the entire planet and cannot be stopped. They enter the minds and hearts of those who are receptive and this too is beyond what legitimate power given to representatives or anyone else can control. Our representatives still must always do their best, because they are also invited to be facilitators and participants in the power of love from the Creator by its many expressions through we the people. Jefferson and Franklin understood as they equally embraced, their joyful and painful insights in the process that leads to the natural harmony of mind, body and spirit. They accepted the full range of healthy human emotions and the motions that come forward from them, as they and other visionaries shared their wisdom in designing a healthy democracy. As the words in our Declaration of Independence and our US (us) Constitution are truly followed, they knew that healthy democratic process would be ever evolving. They profoundly understood that the power of personal freedom and loving the gift of liberty from the Creator in each other, accompanies, tunes and orchestrates any healthy Democracy. They intrinsically understood that this process would eventually propagate to everyone on our planet, as it originated from the deepest dimensions of our very human being given to us by the Creator. They also understood the destruction that would result whenever anyone attempted to stop this healthy process for anyone in the evolution of we, the people, the citizens of planet earth. Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin generously presented us with their insights in the principles of democracy. They recognized that extensive and expansive education was central to learning liberating thoughts in the mind, to be accompanied viscerally through all life's lessons also through the body. As mind and body are guided by each person's truly loving spirit, they knew healthy balance would occur both individually and collectively in the new nation. They recognized that each of our spirits is guided by the Divine Spirit that orchestrates all healthy educational matters and the harmonious design for self-governing in government by and for all people. They implemented a democracy that was to be ever evolving and expanding in its infinite motions. Their vision reverently supported the diversity of people and cultures in the United States with the recognition and hope that the equality and support of each other would continually grow in our new nation. Service to each other was to replace the outdated ways of servitude. They knew that when the principles supporting liberty were sufficiently lived by all, the resulting harmony would be witnessed by other nations. Their hope was for the harmonious living to be shared and expanded throughout our entire planet. With profound fortitude and fervent emotion, they encouraged the continual development of these intense motions for everyone in our species evolution. These foundations set in motion a process leading us towards an even deeper paradigm that perhaps someday we may call, "Cosmocracy." In this Ever Changing Paradigm, we begin to recognize that what we have intrinsically and extrinsically developed for our own planet, actually already is, throughout the entire Universe. Our Forefathers and Foremothers gave us living dynamic words about this same, "Uni-Verse". We may recall their words in a pledge of allegiance to one another with Liberty and Justice for All. This is a lucid resonance of the "Uni-Verse that sounds and resounds in our words and our many voices. The All truly includes all in our species on our planet, evolving with the same harmonizing unions within all solar systems, galaxies and universal dimensions. All these are within the One Loving Verse inside all of us that comes from our one Creator.
